The 2001 Copa Sears Pre-Libertadores doubleheader to be played at Spartan Stadium, San Jose, on Wed., Aug. 29 promises to be a defining night for the five-city, ten-game futbol tournament, as the teams who emerge victorious are likely to earn the top-two spots and advance to the last games of the Pre-Libertadores qualifier in Houston. Mexico's top professional futbol clubs are exacted to showcase their best players in their race to earn the most points.
The evening's action begins with the game between America and Atlas at 7:00 p.m. America is considered one of Mexico's strongest clubs, with a roster of talented players that includes Fabian Estay and Ivan Zamorano. Atlas, a young team full of promise, has been having a strong regular season and has shown great talent.
Immediately after the first match, Cruz Azul, the 2000 Copa Sears first place winner and this year's favorite after finishing second in the Copa Libertadores de America will play against Toluca at approximately 9:00 p.m. With "secret weapon" Jose Saturnino Cardozo on its roster, Toluca will be a tough opponent for the Cementeros.
